Call to Action: Tell Elected Officials to Sustain the Governor’s Veto of Bills that Threaten Our Children’s Health

To the Honorable Members of the Louisiana State Legislature,

The organizations & individuals signed below urge you to sustain the veto of HB182 and HB399. These bills have the potential to undo decades of progress our state has made with strong public health infrastructure that keeps our kids and communities safe.

  • HB182: The author and proponents of HB182 falsely claimed that COVID-19 is not a “vaccine preventable disease,” but the reality is that these vaccines reduce transmission, infection, and have saved millions of lives.

  • HB399: Requires schools to add extra communications about vaccine exemptions, without the added language to inform parents about the burden of each disease and the benefits of choosing vaccination. Rather than truly empowering families to make an informed choice about vaccination, it encourages vaccine hesitancy and exemption.

These bills threaten to reduce the uptake of vaccines in Louisiana and are dangerous for public health as we have seen in a recent measles outbreak in Ohio.

These policies are based on fear--not facts--and will lead to more vaccine hesitancy and lower immunization rates. Thank you for considering our urgent request to sustain the veto on HB182 and HB399. Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions or concerns.

Thank you for all you do in service to Louisiana.
