Why It Matters

  • Strong community protection is essential. Vaccination rates of 95% or higher are needed to maintain community immunity from measles and to protect those who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons. When public trust is diminished and vaccine uptake falls even slightly, outbreaks can occur.

  • Outbreaks are a real and growing risk. A 2025 whooping cough outbreak was the worst in 35 years nationwide. In Louisiana, two infants who were too young to receive the pertussis vaccine died

  • Clear, consistent state-level guidance protect students. Strong school immunization requirements serve as a vital safety net that keeps our children in school and parents and teachers at work.

  • Louisiana has a pro-vaccine majority. Across the electorate, including among those who identify with the  MAHA movement, voters support maintaining current safeguards to prioritize both vaccines and a healthy lifestyle.
